Hip hip hooray it’s our birthday! Waves of Wellness turned the ripe old age of 5 this month and we think this is worth celebrating.

From our humble beginnings on Bondi Beach in 2015 to running over 180 programs in three different states and touching the lives of thousands of people.

When we started pitching the idea of WOW, the most common thing people told us was: “There's too much risk.”

But here we are today.

Our first ever pilot program was with OneWave, another great mental health awareness community which saw 10 people (5 adults and 5 youths) complete the program with incredible results. Ever since, we’ve been perfecting our surf therapy programs to what they are today.

High Five For WOW

Our 5th birthday is a big momentous occasion, and we want to revel in this. At the same time, we know people are doing it really tough with ongoing lockdowns and restrictions in different parts of Australia. This week we’d like to put out some feel-good content to give people an escape from their current situation, even if just momentarily.

Over the 5 working days of WOW’s birthday week, we will share 5 different faces of WOW, showcasing the people involved, in, and touched by WOW.

Face Number One

First up is superstar volunteer Vera who has been donating her time and wisdom for 3 years now.

Meet Phil, our Chairman of the Board, passionate about the evidence-base behind surf therapy.

Meet Sarah, a facilitator extraordinaire on the Gold Coast and Kingscliff.

Meet Jo, a participant in our first ever women’s program in 2020.
